MYSORE: Tucked away in a corner inside the TTL college campus, this spot has special significance for a bunch of hockey players. It is here that match strategies are worked out and accessed after they battle it out on the field.
The college canteen is the adda for the students who have a flair for sports. For them, it is nothing short of a classroom, since they learn here too.
A day without visiting this adda is incomplete for these students, who spend most of their time here. They like this place more than their classroom.
"This place is of a different kind. Here we get new ideas. If any decision has to be taken, we discuss it with our friends right here and since it will be a collective decision, most of the time, it will be a right one. We can't think of a day without coming here," explains Sujith, who is doing his final year BBM. "Even if we complete our course, we will come to back here. This is everything for us," he adds.
The day starts and ends here for J Abhishek. "The composition and game plan for the hockey match is decided here. Before going to the match and after it's over, the team comes here to discuss it. Even when we win or lose the the match, we come here and discuss our rights and wrongs," says Abhishek.
S Shashidhar, skipper of the TTL Hockey team says: "This adda is like our classroom, and it is here we chalk out ideas and strategies for every match. Before going to any match, we come here and interact with the players and chalk out strategies. It is here that the players come and share their experiences before and after the game," says Shashidhar. The performance of each player is assessed, over a cup of tea/coffee or cool drinks.
"We can't think of a day without coming to the adda, says a key hockey player of the college, Prieyash. "We feel relaxed when we come to this hangout and it helps us share our problems and happiness. Even if we miss the classes, we never miss a chance to visit here," quips Sunil.
There is another advantage. By hanging out at the site. They have interacted informally with the lecturers, who come there for their break.
Due to good co-ordination and understanding between the players, the TTL College has emerged the champions at the city inter-collegiate hockey tournament and stood second in Chamundi zone and Dyanchannd tournaments. They say the college physical education director, H S Krishna, has guided them well. He also spends his free time at the adda interacting with the players and other students.
